Have you ever heard of the popular internet trend known as creepypastas, specifically the most popular Slenderman? If you have, this story will most definitely leave you intrigued; On May 31, 2014, 12 year old Morgan Geyser, Anissa Weier, and their friend Payton Leutner were on a walk in Davids Park, located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Geyser, who had been diagnosed with early on-set schizophrenia, had agreed on their shared interest for the creepypasta. Which led the two of them to conspire and result in the idea that they could please Slenderman by stabbing and killing Leutner in order to prove his existence.
After the incident occurred, Leutner had managed to escape and call for help after being stabbed multiple times, making a miraculous recovery. However, the two teenagers were both later found and arrested, both being tried as adults in the case. During the case, both teens were found not guilty, however, they received a different sentencing. Geyser was sentenced to 40 years to life, while Anissa Weier was sentenced only 25 years to life, both being ejected into a mental institution.
In 2021, Weier was deemed sane enough to be released from the institution and is now, currently living with her father. While Geyser had been moved from the institution and granted a conditional release into a group home in Madison, Wisconsin earlier this year to be supervised for the rest of her sentence.
Months after living in the group home, Geyser had decided she was done with the legal system. And sometime in November, while she was unsupervised, she built up the courage to cut off her ankle monitor bracelet, and flee from the custody of the group home. However, just under 24 hours later, Morgan was found over a hundred miles away from the group home out front of a truck stop in Illinois, with an acquaintance identified as Chad Mecca, whom Morgan had met at Good Shepherd Church. Through body footage, she seemed to attempt to hide her identity, using the false name Stephanie Gries. But was later truthfully identified as Morgan Geyser, being arrested yet again and was placed in Waukesha County Jail, but court has spoken about the possibility of sending her to another mental health facility.
