On October 23, 1959, in Downey, California, The world renowned musician/actor Alfred Matthew Yankovic AKA Weird Al Yankovic was born. Weird Al is known as the king of comedic parodies, he had single handedly created an entirely new genre of music while also making his own creative and hilarious original music as well.
In 1983 Weird Al released his self-titled album which resulted in a smash hit, putting him on the map with songs like “My bologna” a parody of “My Sharona” and “Another One Rides The Bus” a parody of “Another One Bites The Dust”. His 2nd album Weird Al Yankovic In 3-D was even bigger with many great songs like “I Lost on Jeopardy”, “King of Suede” and “Smells Like Nirvana” but his true magnum opus was “Eat It”, a parody on Micheal Jackson’s “Beat it”. “Eat It” immediately became one of Weird Al’s biggest hits, It was his first gold record and was the first of his songs to use the polka format, which Weird Al would quickly be known for. The third album in his discography, Dare To Be Stupid includes hits like “One More Minute” and “Dare To Be Stupid,” which are original songs and “Like A Surgeon” a parody of “Like A Virgin”. One fun fact about Weird Al’s 1985 album release is that it was the very first comedic themed album to come out on CD.
Weird Al became so popular he got his own not so true autobiography/movie called Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. In the movie it tells a very exaggerated and false version of Weird Al’s life which includes him dating Madonna, working for Pablo Escobar, and becoming one of the greatest musical artists of all time. Now Weird Al is going on his “Bigger and Better Tour” playing all of his biggest songs with his generations of fans around the country.
