“The Lost Tapes” will be showcased as a 30 minute special on Cartoon Network on May 11th of this year when 9 years ago, the finale of the hit comedy children’s TV show Regular show, a show made by J.G Quintel, aired on Cartoon Network. Originally the show came from inspiration of J.G’s earlier works as a student in the California institute of the arts, where his student films gained popularity for using comedy in everyday slacker life. The student films being named, The Naive man from lolliland and the 2 am in the PM which showcased him being a voice actor in both of the short films, and early character designs for characters that would be eventually in Regular show.
After the shorts were shown during Nicktoons film festival in 2005, where both of his shorts won the award, they gain lots of international attention and fame from them, J.G then pitched his idea of Regular Show to Cartoon Networks, Cartoonstitute, in which it allowed young and upcoming artists to create pilots with no notes, to then be optioned for an actual show in their network.
After the show came to fruition which had characters like Skips, voiced by Mark Hamil, most known for Star Wars and the Joker from the Batman The Animated series and even J.G Quintel himself voicing many of them like Mordecai. During the course of the show it had won many awards such as the Primetime Emmy awards, and the Annie awards and this showcased how much J.G Quintel’s idea came to life. The show eventually got big enough to where eventually the show had a movie created with it, Regular Show The Movie.
However good things could not last, as the creative team and J.G both felt like they had already done enough with the stories they could tell, and with a creative burnout, they concluded the series in early 2016. Now with a new revival from J.G who after the show went on to create shows like Close Enough an adult swim show, and the same creative team from 9 years ago came back for a revival due to a massive want for the show to come back, and for its cultural impact that the show gave to the audience from the past with nostalgia, and now to help impact the new generation with this revival.
