Winter Springs High School recently performed one of Shakespeare’s most popular writings, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Though this show will only be performed from October 23rd through the 25th, Cast member Olivia Taylor, who played Snug the joiner, reports that she and her troupe worked for nearly two months in order to perfect the performance. Audiences were more than delighted with the performance, including Grace Johnston, who was there during opening night. She stated, “I really enjoyed this play and the way each cast member added their own spin to their character. I would absolutely recommend this!”
According to Shakespeare’s early writings, the story of a Midsummer Night’s Dream takes place in ancient Athens, focusing on the forbidden love story of Hermia and Lysander. After requesting her father for his blessing of marriage to Lysander, Hermia is horrified when her father, Egeus, harshly declines, and attempts to turn her attention towards his choice of husband, Demetrius. Hermia’s close friend, Helena, wishes to be betrothed to Demetrius, but blinded by his false love for Hermia, Demetrius sees nothing of Helena’s affection.
