Winter Springs girls Varsity Softball team shared a moving poem to honor their teammate and friend, Kennedy Jackson, on Friday October 17th. Candlelight flickered across the field as the wind carried the sound of grief. The field was quiet, the sun was setting as the team stood next to home plate. Their voices were weak and shaking but they stood strong together to share this loving poem in memory of their teammate and friend. However, Kennedy was more than just a player on the team; she was known for her kindness, energy, determination, and a smile that could lift anyone’s mood. When Kennedy’s passing was first mentioned, our school and community were heartbroken and desolate. The softball team decided to honor her the way they knew best: together and on the field she loved most. The poem written by her entire team captured what words could barely express.
The poem shared:
We stood on the field, gloves in hand,
Dust swirling soft across the sand.
Laughter once filled the evening air,
Now silence lingers – you’re not there.
Your jersey rests, the number still,
But in our hearts, you always will.
Each base we touch, each pitch we throw,
Carries the light you used to show.
We didn’t see the storm you fought,
The weight you carried, battles caught.
But we’ll remember – not the pain,
Just your spirit after the rain.
We play for you with every swing,
Your name the echo that we sing.
And though the tears still blur our view,
We’ll keep the game alive – for you.

This beautiful poem left everyone feeling her presence through these touching words and leaving us with remembrance heading into the rest of the weekend.
