In 2010 the number of attendees at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights sat around 805,000, later exceeding over 1.5 million in the span of 15 years, that is an 86% increase of people. To those that haven’t gone that might seem good but to those who went know how much of a pain that it is when Halloween Horror Nights is over crowded. With rising numbers in attendees also means the rise in the number of children and teenagers going, that is especially true this year because of the Five Nights At Freddy’s house, which is a game/franchise made in 2014 about animatronics attacking a security guard while he defends himself with cameras and doors and the games remain popular to this day with even more games still being created to this day. The game is also very popular with children and teenagers and at big horror events like Horror Nights I’ve seen others, especially teenagers, acting reckless and uncautiously.
I have seen them harass employees and scare actors countless times but the people don’t just affect others but also the houses and can directly affect wait times which are already at record highs. When people act thoughtless it causes stops to the events and even the overall flow of the night, but it’s not just the younger crowd’s fault. There are many impulsive adults as well, at Halloween Horror Nights they sell alcoholic beverages that many attendees indulge in and that mix of the adrenaline of the night and plus alcohol is never a good mix. But it’s not solely the people’s fault, with the bigger crowds you would think there would also think security would also be growing but you would be wrong.
At the houses there is usually only one security personnel outside at the front and a couple employees scattered throughout the house to keep you in the right direction, but those employees might tell you to put your phone away but they don’t have any real authority and it is hard for them to resolve problems. Also in scare zones which are areas around the event that have many scare actors that relate around a theme, in most scare zones there are 8 employees and from what I’ve seen less than five police officers. In the big show they have called Nightmare Fuel Circus Of Decay where they do acrobatics with intense pyrotechnics and crazy magic tricks in front of your face that make you ask yourself for the rest of how they did that. So a show like that there should be more employees but there are a total of 8 for the hundreds of people that in some parts of the show get right in your face. Halloween Horror Nights is a great haunt even with the security problems but there is not just Horror Nights. Haunts like Sir Henry’s HauntedTrial and Petrified Forest are some great alternatives
