Set to release on May 8, 2026, the movie adaptation of Mortal Kombat is scheduled to release a sequel to the first movie, titled Mortal Kombat II. On July 17, 2025, each of the social media accounts for the Mortal Kombat movie, such as their Instagram and TikTok accounts, posted slideshows revealing each of the returning cast, as well as cast members for characters set to be introduced in the sequel. The cast included Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Martyn Ford (Shao Khan), Tati Gabrielle (Jade), Ana Thu Nguyen (Sindel), CJ Bloomfield (Baraka), Damon Harriman (Quan Chi), Desmond Chiam (King Jerrod), and Kyle Wyatt (unknown Mob Leader).
After the release of the official trailer for the sequel, Mortal Kombat released a fake trailer to show off their ever popular character, Johnny Cage, played by actor Karl Urban, famous for his role as Billy Butcher in Amazon Prime’s The Boys series. The trailer shows off Johnny in his prime movie acting days where he is acting in his own movie titled “Uncaged Fury.”
The official trailer was released a day before by Warner Brothers showing off many of the new characters in action and fight scenes. According to the trailer, it seems that, unlike the first movie, Johnny will be the main focus instead of Scorpion’s descendant, Cole Young, leading many speculating fans to believe that Cole may be killed off from the franchise since he was not a part of the official games and was created as a fill in character to become the main protagonist.
Many of the fans are in between feeling thrilled or terrified to find out what direction Warner Brothers and director Simon McQuoid plan on taking for the movie sequel and if it will perform well, unlike the first movie, which had only received a 6.1/10 on IMDb and a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans are at the edge of their seats wondering if these champions are ready for Kombat.
