Choi Seung-Hyun, born on November 4, 1987, known to many fans around the world as Korean rapper T.O.P in the popular boy band BIGBANG, or as Thanos in the season two of the popular show Squid Game began his acting career in the year 2009 being featured in the movie and TV series known as Iris, also featuring popular Squid Game actor Lee Byung-Hun. Choi, portraying an assassin named Vick in the K-drama, gained an even higher stance of popularity by committing to both his singing and acting career.
In the year 2017, Seung-Hyun was appointed to his mandatory service in the military serving as a policeman, however after just a few months Choi was put under investigation for suspicion of substance abuse. Among each of the cast members of Squid Games that had been involved in more harsh situations than T.O.P, he was the most criticized for his new role in the new season of Squid Game by locals and KTV (Korean TV) networks.
However, many fans of Squid Game have voiced their opinions, stating that Choi does not deserve the discredit he had received from others around the world. Even director Hwang Dong-Hyuk (director of Squid Game) commented on the situation stating “The incident happened a long time ago, and the sentence was completed.” and “Many artists have returned after similar incidents, so I thought it might be an appropriate time for him to return to work.” T.O.P has also received lots of love from fans of BIGBANG and Squid Game in other states including the U.S and Canada.
After having the chance to find out who Seung-Hyun was because of his return to acting, many of his fans around the world believe that Choi has proved himself enough to others in the world and that his career as a music artist and actor should continue to be appreciated rather than criticized when his allegations were made years ago. As Choi becomes more and more active on social media, can he finally climb back to the T.O.P?
