Ms. Angel Collins is the School Administration Manager (SAM) and Dean at Winter Springs High School. For the past 21 years, Collins has been a member of the Bear Nation. Before becoming a dean, Collins was a math teacher. She’s taught in schools across Florida from Leon County, Tallahassee to Seminole County, Orlando.

Collin’s transition into administration was natural, and she said she “filled the position after she was approached with an opportunity to step out of the classroom.”

When asked about the differences between being a teacher versus being an educator in administration, she suggested that there were more responsibilities, but that being a traditional teacher was also difficult. “All educators right now have a heavy load,” she said. Around campus, she helps out wherever Principal Gaffney needs her, but mainly works in discipline and with the senior class.

Ms. Collins is passionate about her students and their education, and one of her goals is getting everybody at Winter Springs to graduate. Her fondness for her students is apparent as soon as you walk into her office, where she has a wall full of pictures of them from all of the schools she’s taught at. Not only is Collins an Administration Manager and former teacher, she’s also a tutor. Ms. Collins has been tutoring students for years. One of her dreams is to open her own tutoring center some day. She practices math problems frequently to keep herself  “sharp.” Collins will often solve math problems out of ACT/SAT books for fun.

Besides education and mathematics, she also enjoys reading. Collins particularly enjoys reading page-turners and books by African American authors in her spare time. Mrs. Collins is an active member of an African American book club, where members read and analyze books by Black authors. She’s looking forward to their next meeting. Collins also enjoys working out, and does so before school every morning at 4:00 A.M. She considers herself an “early bird.”

Mrs. Collins can’t wait to lead by example this year by continuing to pursue her own interests and passions while encouraging others to do the same; she’s so excited to work with this year’s class of 2024!
