It seems like just yesterday when it was February 15 at the A.W. Epps Sports Complex. The home opener for the WSHS Girls’ Lacrosse team’s 2022 Spring Season. There has been hopeful spirits, pregame jitters, and a bittersweet feeling of the last game opener of their high school lacrosse career. After acing their first game against the Olympia High School Titans 17-7, nothing but accomplishments and grand highs and lows equated from the phenomenal season. Wins as high as 17-1, Bear Belts (The team’s version of an MVP award) galore, emotional farewells to valued players graduating this year who’ve played since their freshman year, and a spot to the District playoffs. What a season it’s been for the WSHS Lady Bears. But of course, all good things must come to an end. On April 19, one game into the District playoffs, WSHS team’s season concluded after a defeat against the Oviedo High School Lions 19-6. In their Primary Spring Season they finished off with a record of 9-5  In addition to winning their first and losing their second District playoff game at home, the overall season record stood at 10-6, which is an extraordinary improvement from last season where their end record was 7-7 including playoffs. Big congratulations and thumbs up to the WSHS Varsity team! But there’s more to this team than their stats and wins, because a season is so much more than that. Strangers players met in January, who someone would’ve just seen around school become some of their best friends by April. Most Varsity teammates have known each other since freshman year and intend to stay friends for life. And most of all a lifelong love and attachment to lacrosse. Graduating Seniors, Meghan Geist, Jesse Register, Rosena Schepp, and Taylor Hauk have displayed hopes and plans to continue their lacrosse careers after high school playing club, and some even plan to coach young aspiring players. Speaking of seniors, on Senior Night at home against Seminole there wasn’t a single dry eye in the house. Even more so when the ladies played their last high school game of all time on April 12 against Oviedo at their second playoff game of the 2022 season. But at the end of the day, win or lose, this was a grand season for the ladies of Winter Springs lacrosse and has most definitely  made their fellow student body and principal proud. That’s a winning season in the books to us all.
