On October 27th, 2023, Five Nights at Freddy’s released in theaters to mixed reviews, with some critics praising the looks of the animatronics and acting, while also pointing out the lack of actual horror, disliking the overall plotline, and claiming that it was not relevant to the game itself. Many of these same critics also pointed out how if a viewer was a FNAF fan, they would like the movie. The last time we left the FNAF universe, William Afton got springlocked in his Springtrap suit after the other animatronics with Mike, and Vannesa all attacked him.
After this, the building collapsed after Mike, Vannesa, and Abby escaped, seemingly killing everyone inside, but in the first post credit scene, it shows Afton still alive in his suit with the ghost of Golden Freddy closing a door on him. Many people were not sure if there even would be a sequel, but Five Nights of Freddy’s 2 was announced in April 2024 by Blumhouse.
On July 24th, 2025, the first trailer for FNAF 2 was released. The trailer begins with a Blair Witch Project-esque style of recording using a camcorder, which seems to end after a character seemingly gets killed in a separate room. After a bit, it shows Abby getting awoken by a toy walkie-talkie and her riding to the old Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria building where the events of the first movie took place.
Finally, it shows the new toy animatronics from the games in various situations like the pizzeria and at what seems to be a convention of some sort. Since this trailer was released, there have been some casting announcements for the new toy characters, and all of the original main actors are staying in their roles. Some of these announcements were controversial, like the announcement of Megan Fox voicing Toy Chica, and popular YouTuber MatPat voicing Toy Bonnie. Carmelo Oquendo, who is our Chief Copy Editor for the newspaper stated that the casting directions were “unexpected” and “wonders how these castings will affect the movie.”
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 releases December 5th, 2025, to much fanfare and speculation to how the trailer and castings will transfer over to the movie itself.
