Winter Springs High School Pickleball club is back for its second year on campus and is gaining the recognition of many. The WSHS pickleball club came to life with the hard work of President Kristina Karaivanova, and Vice President Riley Hancock. Karaivanova came up with this idea alongside teacher sponsor Mr. Taylor to “create a community where everyone can feel welcome and blow off some steam after school.”
The club hosts events throughout the year at Central Winds pickleball courts with opportunities for students of all grades and skill levels to compete. Last year the club hosted ten events with captivating themes to keep members engaged. Some of these themes include Neon November, Color Wars, Turkey Thursday, and even a senior tournament. Vice President Hancock proclaimed the event she is most excited for this year is “the tournaments where people are going to go against each other” because they are exciting for both the teams playing, as well as the audience.
After hosting such successful events last year many new members have decided to join the club this year. Senior Lilah Romagosa is one of the new members who states she decided to join because “I want to show off my skills and build connections.” Even though it is only the club’s second year on campus, it is full of talent and determination to have fun on the courts. Students are encouraged to join and can gather more information from the Instagram account @wshspickleballclub for updates on events and meetings.
