As of August 18th, 2025, Universal Studio’s Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-It has been permanently shut down. The closure of the ride was to make way for a new Universal Studios attraction taking its place but was also rumored to have some safety concerns that contributed to the decision. The new attraction is yet to be announced as of September 2025 but Universal fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
The Rip Ride Rock-It was first opened in 2009 and immediately became a park favorite. This ride has become an iconic staple for Universal Studios for its thrilling coaster experience and unique ideas. The coaster had a feature where riders could select a song from their seat’s control panel to enhance their already exciting experience. The selection of genres and songs was immaculate, it was possible for any rider to find a song they adored. As riders are searching for a song, the coaster slowly heads up a 167 foot incline. Whilst that being nerve racking enough, the incline is also 90 degrees so passengers are faced straight to the sky until they reach the top. The coaster designers put an incredible amount of thought and detail into this ride, from the niche song selection even down to a secret menu of songs that is only accessed by holding down the logo on the screen and typing in the song code, which riders found online. Along with the steep drop and high speeds up to 65mph, the coaster also has the world’s first non-inverting loop.
The destruction of the Rip Ride Rock-It left countless universal fans heartbroken. The ride had a good 16 year run but now it’s time for possibly an even better coaster.
