Whether an athlete has played one season, three, or dedicated all four, everyone gets attached to their sport and team. For these superb six seniors of the Girls Lacrosse team, their bond with one another and love for their sport was crystal clear on the night of April 4th. Senior nights are always emotional for the bittersweet feeling of saying goodbye to a beloved sport as well as celebrating a prized era and season. The Bears defeated the Orangewood Christian Rams with a stellar score of 23-8 leaving not only the seniors, but the entirety of Wayne Epps stadium elated.
Prior to the varsity game, the seniors were cherished with their traditional field walk. The ladies were accompanied by their loved ones as their prewritten senior speeches played over the stadium speakers. Tears were shed from both sides of the field as the seniors waltzed down the field for their final home game and pondered about their time as a Bears lacrosse player. As they shared their favorite memories and what they’ll miss most, they walked past their underclassmen teammates lowering their sticks in honor. At the end of the field, the girls took photos with Coach Kaitlyn Lucas and were handed lavender and gold flowers. The six varsity seniors as well as the Senior JV manager gathered in a group hug while their underclassmen joined in with joy. However quickly after, the tears were wiped, crowns and sashes packed, and helmets strapped, It was Game time.
Seniors, Aislinn Jones, Kelsey Krau, Sophia Denton, Giana Hay, Makayla Thomas, and Anarosa Cunningham, were all on the starting lineup for the night. As they ran down the field slapping sticks with their teammates, their teammates cheered and chanted for them. The stands were packed with fans as they awaited the match. The first draw led to a fast break on the Bears’ side and a goal by Aislinn Jones. As the play got around to all offense players. Two Senior defender players were placed on attack to each make their first goal of the season, on senior night. The game resumed a high scoring game with a score of 23-8 Bears. After the match, the seniors took a final walk down the field with one another as Never Grow up by Taylor Swift played. The sappy ceremony turned even more emotional as their underclassmen teammates met them at the end to cry their hearts out for the last time. With all credit given to the parents and coaches, the Girls Lacrosse seniors had quite the sentimental, exciting, and memorable night.
