Robbie Coltrane was a Scottish actor best known for his role as Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies. On October 14, Coltrane passed away at age 72 in a Scotland hospital. His cause of death has not been disclosed. His agent, Belinda Wright, broke the news of his death and thanked the hospital staff for their care and diplomacy.

Many of his close friends, fans, and coworkers have shared their memories and given their condolences.

Emma Watson, the actor who played Hermione, posted to her Instagram story a photo of the two. She wrote, “Robbie was like the most fun uncle I’ve ever had but most of all he was deeply caring, and compassionate to me as a child and an adult. His talent was so immense it made sense he played a giant -he could fill ANY space with his brilliance.” She went on to talk about how kind Coltrane was and how she will miss him forever.

Tom Felton, aka Draco Malfoy, tweeted a memory he had with Coltrane. “One of my fondest memories of filming Harry Potter was a night shoot on the first film in the forbidden forest. I was 12. Robbie cared and looked after everyone around him. Effortlessly. And made them laugh. Effortlessly.” He attached a photo of Coltrane with Felton, Watson, and Robert Grint.

A Harry Potter fan account created a post on twitter of a tribute fans had created for Coltrane. @HPotterUniverse, “After finding out that Robbie Coltrane had passed away, some fans @UniveralORL gathered and held a small wand tribute just outside Hogwarts. What an amazing way to honor him.”
