Disclaimer: This contains spoilers for various parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) including some of the recent shows such as Spiderman: No Way Home.

On December 17, Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in theaters and according to CNBC has “[topped] $1 billion at the global box office.” This huge turnout showed how excited the fans were to see the movie and demonstrated how dedicated they are. Rotten Tomatoes showed an audience rating of 98%, adding to the already astonishing reviews.

Spider-Man: No Way Home had a huge impact on the future of the MCU and is a turning point in the direction that future movies will likely take. First of all, it introduces the idea of the multiverse and the theoretical ideas that come with it. Ideas like alternate versions of characters who faced different challenges and experiences, different villains with different powers that require interesting methods to defeat, and the possibility of meeting new heroes and the opportunity for more meetings among seemingly unconnected characters.

Additionally, this is not the first time that the multiverse has been mentioned. It plays an important role in some of the shows that can be found on Disney+ including Loki and What If. It allows the viewer to see a crossover between the different Spider-Man franchises, done by Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, and to experience them meeting. It allowed the audience to see just how much potential this concept has for the future of the franchise, and to get a fun, joke-filled interaction between these independent characters and villains.

The film itself allowed for the viewer to fully immerse themselves in the possibilities that these concepts can bring. Not only did the film bring up plenty of references to the other Spider-Man films found in the characters, jokes, and even the iconic “With great power comes great responsibility” line, but it also allowed for the separation of the character Peter Parker from all of his previous actions in his movies. It brought in a clean slate for the future of the Spider-Man franchise and has set up the entire universe for a new multiverse of possibilities.
