Popular game company, Riot Games initially gave fans information about their upcoming show, Arcane, regarding League of Legends back in 2019 at the game’s tenth-anniversary event. Due to COVID-19, the Netflix series was delayed until it was recently picked back up. The trailer dropped on September 25, and the show itself was released on November 6. Arcane continued to come out with three episodes each week throughout November, concluding with nine total episodes.

With its first episode launch, Arcane caught the eye of many. Even those who have not played League of Legends enjoyed watching the action fiction series. Created and produced by Riot Games and Fortiche, a French studio, the show takes place in the fantasy utopia of Piltover and the contrasting region whose inhabitants are poverty-stricken, Zaun. Following the story of in-game characters Vi and Jinx and their traumatic past, the lore expands throughout Arcane as new theories are considered. Featured characters that played a big role in the show include Jayce, Viktor, Caitlyn, Ekko, Singed, and Heimerdinger.

Within several days, Arcane stole the number one spot on Netflix surpassing Squid Game with an estimated total of 1.8 million viewers during the premiere streamed on Twitch. While watching, participants could receive drops that can be used in Riot Games such as Valorant, League of Legends, and Team Fight Tactics (TFT).

The show begins with its introduction collaborating with Imagine Dragons’, “Enemy,” featuring J.I.D. This isn’t the first time the band has made music for the franchise. The previous song “Warriors” appeared in a League of Legends cinematic. While listening to the lyrics, viewers could connect the meaning of the song to the characters and plot. “Enemy” became number 1 on Spotify for three consecutive weeks.

Season two has been confirmed as League of Legends’ YouTube channel posted a video called, “Arcane: Season 2 Announcement.” Not much is known about this upcoming continuation, but many fans can’t wait for the release.
