The Suicide Squad 2 released on August 6, as the anticipated sequel to the first Suicide Squad which released in 2016. People all over the country rushed to their local theatres so they could be one of the first to watch the next DC film. The movie starts out by introducing the most dangerous criminals in the world, but these criminals are not like others. They have superhuman abilities that make them man-killing-machines. The main characters, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Margot Robbie as Harley, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, and David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man are recruited by the US government to invade the island of Corto Maltese to stop their newest evil plan- Project Starfish.

When the movie first started I was instantly captivated by the action filled ordeal in its first few moments. The main characters from the original Suicide Squad movie embarked on their mission to attack the beach on the island of Corto-Maltese. When the group gets there, they are quickly snuffed out by the enemy and just how fast they arrived; they were hunted down. All of the villains died except for Harley Quinn who later found herself in a maximum security prison. The attention then shifted to Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Ratcatcher, and Polka-Dot man. They attacked the opposite side of the beach and were able to get past the front of Corto-Maltese militia. The only thing I felt was a mistake in the film was the constant flashbacks and flashforwards. At some points I felt a little lost in the timeline, but I suppose that could be a strategy by writers to keep the audience on their toes.

The film premiered in 4,002 American theatres and made 26.5 million dollars on opening weekend for an underwhelming result. Although the sales didn’t quite meet expectations, it wasn’t necessarily surprising considering many film watchers may be concerned about the Delta Variant. Because of the Delta Variant, the movie was released on HBO Max at no extra charge to subscribers. I personally loved the movie, and I feel as though the whole cast, director, writers, and producers did a great job in making the film. The first Suicide Squad was not as good as most wanted it to be, but this one definitely hushed the critics and pleased all the avid DC Comic readers worldwide.
