This Spring, the Winter Springs High School track and field team officially kicks off their season. The first official practice took place on Monday, January 4, led by head coach Octavius Clark. This season, twelve meets are scheduled for the team, including three invitationals and three relays. The team will also travel to the FSU campus in Tallahassee, the UF campus in Gainesville, and the local UCF campus in Orlando. This season is filled with anticipation as the team has many talented runners representing our school.

Sophomore J.J. Blake has been running track since elementary school, and this year, he participates in the 1600m (1 mile), the 800m (.5 mile), and the 4x100m relay. Freshman Brett Albury decided to join the team to get in shape and get faster for football season next fall. Junior Sarah Turner competes in the 1600, 3200, and 800-meter races. She enjoys track and field because of the camaraderie. When she is not racing, she enjoys “watching each other and cheering them on.”

Track and field is one of Winter Springs’s most decorated sports with a history of success and is a great way to get involved with athletics and stay in shape. The first meet is on February 14 at Bishop Moore.
