What to Expect from Cyberpunk 2077

Lily Mendez, Staff Reporter

Many people were excited for Cyberpunk 2077 to release. There are many features in this game that will excite everyone in the gaming world, including detailed customization of one’s character. It was released on December 10, 2020, although it was originally supposed to release on April 16. CD Projekt RED announced it was being pushed back because it needed “more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing.”  So it was pushed to release in September, then pushed back again to release in November, then finally it was released in December.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the near future dystopian Night City and features Keanu Reeves. It was first announced in 2012 and released eight years later. One of the major features fans were excited for was the character customization. Where games will customize their character, V. If players choose the masculine character, V stands for Vincent. With the feminine options, V stands for Valerie. Along with the classic customization of skin color, makeup, hair color, etc, there are more detailed customizations. These include, more muscular body, pitching of the voice, more feminine body, and so on. None of the customizations are dependent on another, so any body type, with any voice, any hair, etc. is possible.

There are three paths that players can choose from which will  indicate the playthrough of the game. These paths are Corporate, Nomad, and Street Kid. The path you choose will give V a backstory, determine which Night City District she starts in, and the characters that she will meet along the way.

Nomads are usually in groups, but when you start the game, V will start out alone in the Badlands, which is a wasteland with derelict buildings. This path will take V from the stretch of desert surrounding Night City to its border where your character will be interrogated while hauling precious cargo. As a Street Kid she’ll know the city like the back of her hand. The player will start with deep connections alongside plenty of street cred and street smarts. The journey will begin in El Coyote Cojo, the Heywood dive bar where V has plenty of friends with connections. The bar is where you’ll meet Kirk, a resourceful ally in Night City that will set you up with one of your firsts tasks and Padre, an old friend of V’s who is an experienced fixer with his own personal driver.

The final path that can be chosen is corporate, a high-pressured corporate position as an Arasaka agent with a body crammed full of the highest military-grade software. V will  start out in the Arasaka Tower and then will be able to explore the fast-paced and neo militaristic megacorp. This is where V meets up with Agent Jenkins and begins her story in Night City. As well as the Arasaka Tower. Lizzie’s Bar is a place where V will be able to group up with friends and probe the workings of internal affairs within the corporation. Exclusive to the Corporate life path is a character called Abernathy, another Arasaka executive envied by her subordinate Agent Jenkins. The Corporate life path provides a lot of insight into the twisted corporate lifeblood of the city.

The whole play out of the game will depend on which path is chosen. So choosing the right path for you could be very stressful. Although some may want to choose the path that seems easiest, others may want to have a bit more of a challenge. So the path that is chosen should be completely up to you, and what you think will excite players the most.
