With the first varsity football game on the horizon, Coach Tim Dycus and the Varsity squad have prepared for weeks to come as they face opponent Pine Ridge High School. As the tailgate filled with drinks, food, dancing and games came to an end, all the students, and fans swarmed into the Bear’s football stadium to cheer Winter Springs to victory.
The game began with Winter Springs kicking off to Pine Ridge, however, Pine Ridge couldn’t get anything going for their first drive, leading to a three and out. While this was a great start for the Bears defense, the offense couldn’t get anything going either as the Bears also went three and out. As the Bears defense came back on, the team got two sacks putting Pine Ridge in punting position yet again, this Bears defense is looking scary for Pine Ridge. The rest of the first quarter went on with little to no action as the score rested at 0-0.
Immediately after the second quarter starts, Pine Ridge goes for a punt but it was blocked by the Bears and they recover! This electric start to the drive didn’t go anywhere as the Bears were forced to punt yet again. Another two sacks from the Bears led to yet another punt on the game. On first down, the Bears threw an interception. When Pine Ridge took back over, they went to fourth down very easily. A false start call on Pine Ridge, pushed them back another five yards, they went up to punt, WR Tristen Raines for the Bears took it all the way to the house for the first touchdown of the game! The extra point went up and was good. The Bears got the ball back towards the end of the half as the Bears recovered their own kickoff after a miscommunication on Pine Ridge’s end. The team was in prime position for a field goal in the last seconds of the half. Coach Dycus brought out the kicking team for three, unfortunately the field goal did not go in to end the first half.
Pine Ridge kicks off the start the third quarter, after a first down from the Bears, Pine Ridge gets a facemask penalty thrown on them, bringing the Bears to the 25 yard line. With great blocking from the Bear’s offensive line, RB Omar Scott runs it in for a Bears touchdown! The extra point was blocked by Pine Ridge after a bad snap. Pine Ridge had nothing to respond with against that electric Bear’s defense. Later in the quarter Omar Scott ran it in for his second touchdown of the night, putting the Bears up 20-0.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Bears defense did not let down, they went out and got more sacks, setting Pine Ridge farther behind. The Bears went on to score two more touchdowns to end the game and Pine Ridge still had nothing to answer them, the Bears won their first regular season game with a bang, 34-0! Both the Bear’s defense with eight sacks, and the Bear’s offense scoring 34 points looked amazing.
This is the exact start the Bears wanted to come in and crush Pine Ridge in the season opener. This team has high hopes for the rest of the season as they go on to play other great schools like Edgewater and Celebration later in the season.
