In terms of upsets in the March Madness NCAA Tournament, you could say there’s a lot, as unexpected as it can get. However, the 2025 Tournament has been nothing but disappointing for fans who want these upsets, and always cheer for the underdog team. With some minor upsets here and there, not many stand out, however some games like 10-seed Arkansas beating 2-seed St. Johns and 6-seed Ole Miss taking down 3-seed ISU do show upsets. Not many of the top seeded teams went down early this year, unlike so many others in the past.
In Final Four history, only 2008 stands out being the only year that all 1-seed teams make it, which may seem hard to believe, however it’s true. But this time it’s different, all of them made it, the Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers, Houston Cougars and Duke Blue Devils, all one seeds, all duking it out in the Final Four to make the championship game and win the title. Every one of these teams has proven themselves of their one seed title and greatly earned their Final Four appearances respectively.
Auburn has crushed every opponent in their way, beating every team before them by over ten points, with the exception of 2-seed MSU in the Elite Eight, who they beat by 6. Florida’s path has been much more difficult to them than Auburn’s, as they needed to make a big comeback in the Elite Eight over 3-seed Texas Tech, and won by just two points against UCONN in the second round.
Houston, beat 4-seed Purdue by just two as well in the Sweet Sixteen, however, they destroyed 2-seed Tennessee in the Elite Eight, winning by 19 points. Duke, led by NBA number one draft pick favorite Cooper Flagg is the current majority favorites to win the title, haven’t come close to losing, beating each team faced by 20 points or more. Only 4-seed Arizona came close but still lost by seven.
The Final Four games are Houston vs Duke and Florida vs Auburn. These games will be the most entertaining of the entire tournament, and they will be a marvel to watch.
