Maddie Coates is a junior at Winter Springs High School, and a second year member of the Bear Truth News. This year, she is a Social Media Manager for the Bear Truth, as well as a Staff Reporter who enjoys writing articles that leave the reader feeling positive. Her main goal for newspaper is to improve her writing skills. As for school goals, she hopes to make more friends and see successful progress in all areas of her life at WSHS.

After graduating high school, she hopes to attend New York University and major in journalism. Coates has always had a love for writing, which is one of the main reasons she joined the Bear Truth News. She plans to continue working in journalism for a career after NYU.

Outside of school, Maddie enjoys many creative hobbies, such as playing the guitar, writing her own music, painting, and dancing. She has a love for all things vintage; her favorite music artists include Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. She also loves the 2000s comedy Almost Famous, and the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. Her favorite book is the romance novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Coates is a persistent student and writer, always striving to do the best she can and keep a positive outlook in all situations. Her determination comes from looking up to her mom as her role model; no matter how hard things get, her mom always finds a way to stay positive, something Coates applies to her own life.

Maddie is looking forward to another great year at the Bear Truth News where she can hone her writing skills. Whether it’s working on social media posts for the newspaper, or writing her own articles, she cannot wait to see how her artistic abilities progress.
