As Florida is in the midst of hurricane season, it’s important to know how to prepare for hurricanes. Currently there are no hurricanes coming our way, fortunately, but it is always good to know how to be prepared and safe.

It is always good to have water stored. Some people fill their bathtubs up with water ahead of time in the event of a hurricane. Even if there are no hurricanes, it’s always good to have extra water bottles or gallons of water at home so that you have one less thing to worry about. People should also keep candles or flashlights around the house in case power goes out, especially since a lot of people don’t have generators in their homes.

Canned goods are the best type of food to store up on since it doesn’t have to be refrigerated or heated up most of the time. Bread, peanut butter, and jelly are also really good to stay stocked on since they aren’t required to be refrigerated. To keep stuff cold (such as milk, certain condiments, or even medicine) it’s good to fill your washer with bagged ice since it will help keep everything cold. You could also use coolers or fill a bathtub with ice as well. You should never leave your house during a hurricane unless absolutely needed.

Florida is one of the states that can’t use basements because of the high water levels, but a lot of other states use their basements during natural disasters. If we could have basements here, they would help us out a lot and keep us safe. Some people even have their own safe houses that they use in case of emergencies. It is always good to stay safe and be prepared, so make sure to take precautions and use these tips.
