Florida state’s primaries occurred on August 23, and now that the results have been revealed Democrats and Republicans are wasting no time in preparing their campaign to go against one another. Moreover, Florida is generally known as a swing state meaning that Democrats and Republicans both have a chance in getting their candidates as the governor of the state.

In the Democratic elections, Charlie Christ won in a landslide winning by almost 60 percent compared to his main opponent Nikki Fried who got 35.3 percent of the vote. However, even though Fried lost she stated in an interview done by Chuck Todd that she would become Christ’s nominee for lieutenant governor if she was given the offer; even though, in prior weeks she criticized Christ of whether or not he was a “real Democrat.”

In the Republican primary, Ron Desantis was uncontested; Desantis’s team won the majority of the school board’s contests. Therefore, Christ is the nominee for Democratic party and Desantis is for the Republican party. In addition, the senator nominee for the Democratic party Demings won with 84.3 percent of the vote and Marco Rubio was unopposed in his own party.

Turning to the U.S House, Matt Gaetz, Neal Dunn, Kat Cammack, Aaron Bean, John Rutherford, Michael Waltz, Cory Mills, Bill Posey, Scotty Moore, Calvin Wimbish, Daniel Webster, Gus Bilirakis, Anna Luna, James Judge, Laura Lee, Vern Buchanan, and Greg Steube won for the Republican party. On the other hand, Rebekah Jones, Al Lawson, Danielle Hawk, Lashonda Holloway, Karen Green, Joanne Terry, Darren Soto, Robert Asencio, Annette Taddeo, and Christine Olivo won for the Democratic party.

With spots up for grabs, these next couple of months will be intense for both the Republican and Democratic party.  All in all, Christ and Desantis will be battling it out for the spot of governor this November and only one of them will prevail.
