On August 21, a stretch of road nearby State Road 434 was closed for emergency repairs. These repairs were thought to be a sinkhole measuring about 3-feet wide and at least the size of a manhole. Residents say it was about eight feet deep, which in turn caused it to collapse and created “notable depressions” in the road near by Winter Springs Town Center causing it to be down for repairs for several weeks until notified. FDOT officials went on record to say it is not a sinkhole for it is actually a cause from a pipe from an old drainage system that began to deteriorate to a point of collapse.
Students and staff of Winter Springs High School dislike the recent closing of the road, and have gone on to explain how much of an inconvenience it has been. there has been a dramatic increase in traffic jams in the area. This could become an unsafe environment for students and people in the area, and could also create an environment that causes students to become late to class, and even causes difficulty leaving campus.
