On February 20, the WSHS Chorus program held their Pre-MPA concert, where they sang a small collection of songs in order to prepare for their music performance assessment (MPA). The Harmonies of Purple and Gold, Mixed Concert Choir, and Ursa Minor groups all performed 1-2 songs of varying styles and origins.
Harmonies of Purple and Gold started off the night with “Ta Na Solbici,” a Slovenian song about a lively wedding. The group mixed complex harmonies between the sopranos and altos, along with a series of claps and stomps to go along with the upbeat tempo. Following that song was “Your Soul is Song,” a slower, more emotional song in English.
The Mixed Concert Choir performed a song called “Unclouded Day,” which combined the baritone and bass harmonies with the altos and sopranos. They also sang “Cantique De Jean Racine,” a beautiful French song. The group worked tirelessly to master the French dialect of the song and perform it well on stage.
Ursa Minor, a small group that practices after school, showcased their skills with the song, “When I Fall In Love.” The group also sings without a conductor, meaning they must master the timing and performance largely on their own.
All groups worked long and hard in order to master their songs. As they continue to practice for MPA, Chorus uses the feedback and experiences they gained during the Pre-MPA concert to improve.
