On February 2, the 2025 Grammys were held in Los Angeles. The night was full of some of the most prominent names in music, young and old, and many amazing nominees. Artists across all genres attended, many of them nominated for awards in multiple categories. A multitude of pop artists walked the red carpet, including Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Beyoncé, and more.
Beyoncé, with 11 nominations, left with three of them. She won the award for Best Country Album for her 2025 release Cowboy Carter; the award was presented by Taylor Swift. Beyoncé also received the award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, for her song “II MOST WANTED” with Miley Cyrus, who was also in attendance.
The awards show also featured a wide array of performing artists. Sabrina Carpenter took the stage in a light blue, sparkly bodysuit, and performed a mashup of her two popular singles from Short n’ Sweet, “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.” Filled with her stunning vocals and humour, the act was a perfect start to the show. Sabrina received two Grammys that night: Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso,” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet. These were the first Grammys of her ten year career.
Other performers from the newer generation of artists included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Billie Eilish, and Benson Boone. Chappell performed “Pink Pony Club,” decked out in Western attire, and a giant pink pony on the stage to match. Nominated for Album of the Year and Best New Artist, the night seemed promising for the rising star. She would later take home the Grammy for Best New Artist, and deliver a powerful speech calling out the music industry’s lack of support for newer artists.
She shared that she made a promise to herself that if she ever won a Grammy, “[she] would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and health care, especially to developing artists.” She recalled being a young artist who got dropped by her label, and then struggled to find a job with her minimal work experience in the pandemic. The crowd stood and applauded her speech as she set down her Grammy in favor of speaking out.
Doechii, who recently released her third album Alligator Bites Never Heal, sang her hits “CATFISH” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER.” She was nominated for three awards: Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album, which she won. In her speech, Doechii revealed that she was the third woman ever to win the award.
As for other performers, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars sang “California Dreamin’” in honor of the devastation that took over California during the wildfires. The two of them won the Grammy for their hit song “Die With a Smile,” in the category Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
The 2025 Grammys was a night full of wins, amazing performances, and the new generation of music. While recapping 2024’s musical releases, the Grammys gave a preview as to where things are heading.
