Winter Springs High School is known for its many achievements surrounding academics; however, the school is also notorious for their athletics. One of the stand out athletic teams Winter Springs has to offer is the Bears girls softball team. Approaching later this year available to all students at Winter Springs, is the fall softball squad. The purpose of the fall season is to help prepare athletes for the spring season where the team’s record and statistics will actually compete with other nearby high schools. The difference between the fall and spring season is the seriousness of the play. While it is still important to win in the fall, it also serves as a “practice” or “warm up” for the players. It also helps the coaches look at any new talent planning on trying out in the spring season. It gives players extra opportunity to bond, and play with their returning and new teammates as well. The fall season is open to any and all players; it is highly encouraged by returning varsity members to play the fall season if you intend to try out in the spring. It is important because it gives players more time to get to know and impress the coaches by playing fall. During the fall, athletes will probably play around 5 or 6 total games. The normal schedule for the game weeks is a light Monday practice with all fall players, followed by a Wednesday night game. The schedule will repeat for around 5 weeks, and then players will begin to anticipate the spring tryouts in January. As for competition, the fall schedule usually consists of nearby high schools such as Oviedo, Lake Howell, etc.
