The 2023 iteration of the Golden Globes Awards was recently held on January 7, with many accomplished celebrities in attendance. A multitude of critically acclaimed films and TV shows were nominated for the prestigious award, with categories ranging from “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” to “Best Director- Motion Picture.”
With productions like Barbie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Crown nominated, there was a wide array of different winners at the show. The film Oppenheimer took home five statuettes, including “Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama,” awarded to Cillian Murphy, “Best Director – Motion Picture,” for Christopher Nolan, “Best Motion Picture – Drama,” “Best Original Score – Motion Picture,” for Ludwig Göransson, and “Best Performance for a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture,” awarded to Robert Downey Jr.
Along with awards for films and shows, there were also multiple categories that focused on actors, directors, songs, screenplays, and box office achievements. One of the most prominent moments of the night was when the winner for “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” was announced. Prevailing over multiple amazing nominees, such as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and more, the film, Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, took home the Golden Globe. Alongside this, the film’s original song “What Was I Made For?” earned the title of “Best Original Song – Motion Picture.” The writers of the emotional song, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, went on stage to accept their award.
As for actors and performances, another stand-out winner of the night was Lily Gladstone, who had a starring role in the film Killers of the Flower Moon. Gladstone received the award for “Best Performance for a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama,” making her the first indigenous winner of that category in history. Actress Emma Stone, known for her roles in Easy A and The Amazing Spider-Man, took the stage when awarded the Golden Globe for “Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.” Stone was given the award for her acting in Poor Things, which also earned the award for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.”
The Crown, a historical television series that documents the life of Queen Elizabeth II, also earned its fair share of nominations, along with one award. Elizabeth Debicki was awarded “Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television” for her performance as the late Princess Diana.
Comedy-drama series Succession took home four Golden Globes: “Best Television Series – Drama,” “Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama,” awarded to Sarah Snook, “Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television,” for Matthew Macfayden, and “Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama,” earned by Kieran Culkin.
With a wonderful line-up of talented directors, actors, and artists, the Golden Globes certainly had the room filled with reputable attendees. This list includes Billie Eilish, Cillian Murphy, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Timothée Chalamet, Jennifer Aniston, Elizabeth Olsen, and many more. The Golden Globes was once again a wonderful event that included many memorable moments and talented winners.
