The official trailer for The Last of Us (TLOU) season two is now out and an array of opinions have already been voiced across the internet. For those unfamiliar with the first game, it’s a story based game that follows Joel Miller and Ellie Williams as they go through a journey to get Ellie to the fireflies where she is needed to make a cure for the cordyceps virus, but Joel ends up needing to kill the lead doctor because he found out he needed to kill Ellie in order to make the cure. Joel’s daughter at the start of the game dies, so he thinks of Ellie as his own. In the second game, you play as both Abby Anderson and Ellie as one tries to get revenge for the death of Joel, while the other is drowning in guilt for killing him.
In the newest trailer, actor Kaitlyn Dever, who will be playing Abby, is walking through a hospital. Abby was the daughter of the lead doctor, Jerry Anderson. She then wants to get revenge on Joel after finding out he is the one who killed her father. She then later meets Issac who is the leader of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), where Abby would soon become the most renowned member of the group.
While Abby was getting stronger, Joel was struggling to grasp the fact that he had lied to Ellie after breaking a promise that he made her saying the Fireflies didn’t need her anymore and that there were more people like her. In season two’s trailer, Joel is crying while talking to his therapist trying to cope with the fact that he lied to the one person he cares about after promising to not lie to her. This is something new that they are doing differently from the game; instead of talking to the therapist, Joel was talking to Tommy (his younger brother).
Some speculate that season two will not be as accurate to the game as they had hoped. Student Aria Tobar says “I hope they take creative liberties, but stay true to the message of the game.” In season one of TLOU, they missed a few details that were important to the story, so some guess that they will leave a few things out for season two.
As season two starts we are introduced to a new character called Dina, who is played by Isabela Merced. She is Ellie’s girlfriend. Dina and Ellie both travel together throughout the first portion of the game to try and find Joel to get him back to safety after Joel goes missing after a lookout.
Even though there is a lot to fit into one season, fans are excited for the release of TLOU season two in April.
