Team Paul or Team Tyson? The question millions of people around the world were asking themselves on the days leading up to November 15. In recent years, Famous youtuber and internet personality, Jake Paul, has dived into the world of boxing. Ever since his professional boxing debut in 2018, Paul has compiled a 10-1 record with the only loss deriving from a tie. While Paul has an impressive record facing huge names in the industry, many underestimate his boxing capabilities, especially against a competent as sizable as boxing legend, Mike Tyson. Tyson is a former professional boxer regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. During his official career, Tyson held a record of 50-7 over the course of a 20 year period. The most iconic moment of his career being when he bit off the ear of his opponent in the middle of a fight. While Tyson is an iconic boxing superstar, he is over 20 years retired from his professional career and 58 years old. Due to Tyson’s age–being near senior citizen age– audiences believed it wasn’t a fair fight being that Paul is currently in his physical prime. For this reason, Paul was the projected winner across all sports news platforms.
However the students of Winter springs high school believed differently. In a lunch poll taken in the student government classroom, Tyson was the favored fighter in a 17-4 vote. Due to his acclaimed status many believed he’d win over the youtuber turned boxer.
The fight opened with three professional boxing fights that surely got the crowd and watchers at home rallied up. At about 12 o’clock the main event was ready to take place. Paul came out onto the stage accompanied by his mother, father, and brother. While he was the projected winner, viewers at home noticed Paul was being booed by the live audience. On the contrary, Tyson walked out solo opting out of walking out with his family.
Audiences found the fight to be short and underwhelming. The battle wasn’t as action packed as viewers were expecting, for the majority of the match the fights were either leaning one another or standing on opposite sides of the pen. Young watchers were expecting a bloody clash with more punches, enthusiasm, and maybe even a KO. In each round though, Paul managed to get in greater punches and swings while Tyson either blocked or received the blows. The battle ended in a unanimous vote in favor of Paul bringing his record up from 11-1 and Tyson’s to 50-8.
