WSHS girl’s and boy’s soccer heat up their winter season
December 9, 2015
The soccer teams here at Winter Springs, both boys and girls, take pride in their outstanding hard work. Although the season is approaching the end at the moment, the players are proud of what they have accomplished so far and are dedicating all they have to make the rest of the season great as well.
The WSHS boys’ soccer team may not be ranked first in the district, but nonetheless, these boys work hard every day at practice to be the best that they can be as a team. Their record is 2-6-1, and they have been practicing together as a team since the beginning of October. Some highlights of the season so far for the boys were their shutouts against Oviedo and Seminole, both games beating the teams by two points, and the team bonding that ensued because of some particularly grueling practices in the heat.
Similarly, the girls’ team has earned a couple shutouts so far this season against Deland and Lyman.
Their record is 3-3-0 and stand at fourth in the district. They share the same enthusiasm for the sport that the guys do, and the two teams interact with each other regularly, bonding over their love for the sport.
Both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams rave about the sport and say that it holds a specific meaning to each individual player. Sophomore Mariana Vilchez, who is a goalie on the girls’ team, says she feels that the team is like a second family.
“Even though we’re all very different and come from different backgrounds, our love for soccer brings us all together and bonds us. My best friends are on the team with me. They are really like my family.”
Soccer is a popular sport that many kids across the world play as their childhood pastime, but only some actually stick with it throughout high school. However, whether the members of the teams started playing when they were five years old or only this season, all of them, both boys and girls, are dedicated completely to the game and are proud of their hard work in this 2015 season.
