Dr. Paula Vickers, the IB coordinator, is a well appreciated faculty member here at Winter Springs High School. Vickers may look like your average faculty member but she is more than meets the eye. Vickers is not only a trailblazer but she is also a known role model. This can be backed up by one of her students, Editor-In-Chief Victoria Tirado stated “Dr. Vickers played a big role in my love for writing and my love for newspaper”. Vickers goes above and beyond in everything she does for this school and its students, this can be represented by her time as the Newspaper teacher and overseer. Vickers shared the reason why she started a school newspaper at Winter Springs High School to begin with. She said, “in 1997 when Winter Springs opened, I had a vision and an opportunity to start a school newspaper. Then I was lucky enough to be hired by the principal Wayne Epps. Then we started with eight students and we built a program”.
Vickers is also very active outside of school. When asked what her favorite activities are outside of school she stated that she likes to go to a lot of eighties concerts. The artists are “Def Leppard” and “Van Halen.” That’s not all she does, she is also very versatile and likes to try new things. When asked what one thing that she wishes she stuck with she said, “Zumba and Yoga.” Vickers loves to make Winter Springs a great place to learn. That is exactly what makes her a valuable and treasured member of our staff.
