Caution this article contains spoilers for Spider-Man 2
Insomniac (the video game company behind Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales) released Spider-Man 2 on October 19, 2023. Spider-Man 2 is the sequel to Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game was released exclusively for the Playstation 5 console for $70. This game features both Peter and Miles as playable characters, and lets you switch in between each hero. Both feature unique abilities and skills. These abilities give Peter spider-arm attacks while giving Miles lightning powers; defeating enemies charges these abilities. The mechanics for the game are the same as the previous two, with the exception of changes to the “web-swinging” system.
The story features classic Spider-Man villains such as Sandman, Kraven the Hunter, Venom, and more. Insomniac put their own spin on Venom; their creative interpretation has been received positively by players due to the uniqueness of the character’s design.
Like the previous games, the story is based in New York, while also including new playable areas, including parts of Brooklyn and Queens. This totals to 14 districts that players need to complete the map markers for side missions. This way, players can 100% complete the game. They are not necessary if players want to just finish the main story. Most map markers develop side-plots or the villains’ stories.
At the end of “The Flame” side missions a cutscene plays foreshadowing Carnage, another symbiote like Venom. Similarly at the end of the “Unidentified Target” side missions reveals another villain, Chameleon, who can shapeshift into virtually anyone. Fans speculate that one of these villains will be the main villain of the downloadable content (DLC). As of now, the game has not added any DLC. DLC usually costs money and Spider-Man 2’s DLC is estimated to be around $25. The DLC is not required to 100% complete the game, players can buy the content for an extra storyline and extended playtime. Insomniac has confirmed the existence of Spider-Man DLC, but nothing else is known about the content other than just speculation from fans.
The game is rated 8/10 on IGN and Google reviews have it at 4.3 out 5. Many Marvel and Spider-Man fans have enjoyed the game so far.
