Paramount confirms 2022’s Scream 5
November 4, 2021
Paramount revealed that Scream 5 will be released in January 2022, to the shock and delight of fans. When Wes Craven, horror film legend and director of the popular horror slasher films, passed away from a brain tumor on August 25, 2015, people assumed that their beloved horror franchise, which debuted on December 20 of 1996, was over. Although little is known about the film so far, it has been confirmed that the film itself is a direct sequel to 2011’s Scream 4, and Tyler Gillet will direct. The previous films’ stars, Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), and David Arquette (Dewey Riley) and their characters are all returning to the set. The franchise’s main villain Ghostface will once again stalk Sidney and kill his victims through the phone. There are also a variety of actors starring who are fresh to the series, including Melissa Barrera from In The Heights and Jenna Ortega.
Although the plot, storyline, identity of the new Ghostface, and plenty of other details about the 2022 slasher horror remain unknown at this time, fans are very excited. After all, it’s been a decade since the last movie in the Scream franchise. It’s also notable that Scream 4 didn’t feature Sidney and her friends (much to the fans’ disappointment,) and it was considered a box-office flop.
In support of the newest film in the smash-hit horror slasher franchise, a new horror fan club known as the Woodsboro Horror Film Club and several new Scream-themed emojis have been released. Judging by all of that, along with the recently released poster for Scream 5, which features Ghostface holding his signature bloody dagger, it’s safe to say that many fans are ecstatic for the return of Scream.
