Celebrating Black History Month: Queen Nzinga
February 9, 2018
The national theme for Black History Month is “African Americans in Times of War”. Bear Truth News will pay tribute to several individuals who have contributed to the struggle for liberation.
Queen Nzinga became the queen of the Mbundu people in what is now called Angola. She led her people in battle against the Portuguese. She fought to stop the Portuguese from taking over their lands and expanding their terrible slave trade. She was a skilled warrior, courageous leader and brilliant strategist. The Portuguese tried to assassinate her but never could. She lived and fought on well into her eighties.
