Siana Tricoles, Staff Writer

The national theme for Black History Month is “African Americans in Times of War”.  Bear Truth News will pay tribute to several individuals who have contributed to the struggle for liberation.

Crispus Attucks was the first to die in the American Revolution. He gave his life for the freedom of this country even though his own people were not free. While the American colonists wanted to be liberated from the British, African American were still living under the harsh conditions of slavery. Still, African Americans still fought and died for American liberation. During the Boston Massacre, British soldiers massacred civilians who were just speaking up for their rights. Attucks took two bullets in his chest for America.  Therefore, Attucks is an American hero who helped America become free.
