New iPhone 7 Causes Concern for Apple Users
October 31, 2016
Recently, Apple unveiled details about their brand new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus to the world, and although many Apple customers are not happy about certain details, they need not worry. Most are concerned about the new model because it does not include a way to connect wired headphones to the phone, but this assumption is false. Although the iPhone 7 does not have the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack every previous iPhone has had, the accessories that come with purchase of the phone include not only the new Lightning headphones that connect to the charging port, but also a Lightning adapter that allows any headphones to connect to the phone.
The removal of the headphone jack has opened up space inside the device for more updated features such as a larger camera aperture, water-resistant body, and the best battery life to date in an iPhone. The Plus version of the new phone actually includes an even better battery life and second camera lens for wide-angle shots. The iPhone’s home button has also been reimagined, with a new hyper-sensitive fingerprint scanner for easier access into and around the device.
Junior Simba Murimwa, a longtime Apple customer, has the new iPhone 7 and has said he “doesn’t understand why everyone is so mad about it.” In his eyes, the cons of no headphone jack are “miniscule compared to the overwhelming pros of all the updated features, especially the home button.”
One thing most customers focus on is the introduction of Apple’s AirPods, which have really fueled the fire against the new model. AirPods are essentially the same as the standard Apple headphones, minus the wires. They are just centimeters long and connect to the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus automatically when fully-charged. The compact size and unknown reliability of the wireless headphones has caused an obvious concern among customers.
Losing headphones is a common and relatable occurrence among everyone, not just iPhone users, and the reduction in the size of headphones will certainly not help the problem. Apple’s slogan for AirPods, “Finally Untangled,” does represent a pro of the new device, pointing out how untangling headphone wires will be a thing of the past with AirPods, but most customers are more concerned with keeping their headphones versus never untangling them again.
Although the introduction of AirPods has given some a sense that listening wirelessly will be the only option on the new iPhone, fortunately, this is not true. AirPods do not come with the purchase of the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, but will be available for purchase in late October.
Apple customers across the globe have met the iPhone 7 with much criticism because of the loss of the world’s beloved headphone jack, but the accessories provided with the phone and other updated features more than make up for it. The practicality of AirPods, however, is still up in the air, due to the fact that they have not been released yet, but the future for the new wireless headphones does not seem bright.
