Junior, Ariel Williams, started bowling in the summer of 8th grade at the Oviedo Bowling Lanes, and has continued her passion by joining the bowling team here at Winter Springs High School.

Eager to join the team, Williams joined the Winter Springs High School Bowling team in 9th grade.
“I enjoyed the sport and I wanted to improve myself,” says Williams.

On the bowling team, Williams is the “anchor.” The anchor’s job is to try to support the team or get an extra strike or spare to win the game.

Not only did Williams enjoy the sport, but she also wanted to meet new people.

“I believed I would meet amazing people and feel like perhaps I could ‘belong’ somewhere, and I did.”
Williams’ favorite part about being on the team is having her teammates support her and everyone on the team.

She said that they have a special bond together especially “the chants and cheers we come up with when our team gets a strike or spare and how encouraging everyone is and how close we’ve all became.” Williams said, “One of the best feelings is knowing that even if you miss a spare that the team will support you.”

Williams’s goals for the bowling team, are to “…place in Districts and go to State.”

The bowling team will be going to Districts on October 26, 2015. If successful at Districts, they will be going on to States on November 4-5, 2015. The WSHS Girls Bowling Team today is the best team since WSHS started the team. They are ranked 2nd place in Seminole Athletic Conference.

Williams’s personal goals are, “…to become a better bowler, than I already am and to help others learn to bowl if they’re interested.”

The team will be competing in the upcoming Florida High School Athletic Association District tournament that will determine whether or not they make it to the FHSAA State Tournament.
