WSHS is preparing for homecoming week festivities.

Preparations for homecoming are underway! This year’s theme is “Wizard of Oz.” Winter Springs High School (WSHS) Leadership classes came up with dress up days for each day of the week leading up the homecoming dance on Saturday.

Every day before sixth period during this week, there will be a costume contest. Find an administrator each day and show them your costume! Get an Emerald Ticket to enter the contest in the center of the courtyard. Prizes will be awarded daily!

Homecoming Dance is November 4th from 7-11pm. Tickets are sold at lunch in the courtyard and in front of the auditorium. On October 27th prices are $35, October 30th through November 3rd is $40, and on homecoming day is $45.

In the past, Winter Springs High School has had a homecoming parade every other year; however, this year is the exception. With safety being the number one priority, the Winter Springs Police Department (WSPD) has decided to reevaluate a route that is safer for young students. The new route for the parade will incorporate Bear Springs Dr. and Blumberg Blvd.

Students are ecstatic to see what this year’s parade has to hold. Beta Club, Band, Cheer, and more floats will be there!

“Looking forward to my 2020 class float.” said 10th grader Mark Moshir.

All students on Homecoming Court will be featured in the parade. There are five girls and guys waiting to find out if they will be king/queen. Although it is the norm for couples to be on homecoming court, not everyone on the court this year is a couple.

Senior and homecoming court nominee Carlos Melendez said, “Emily and I are trying to make a statement that you don’t have to be a couple to run for homecoming king or queen. We are strong, independent people who encourage others to run whether you’re in a relationship or not.”

Come to the game on Friday, November 3rd to see which boy and girl senior will be crowned king and queen! Come out on October 30th for the 20th WSHS Homecoming Parade; we hope to see you there!
