Crash landing their ship into theatres, the Guardians of the Galaxy are coming in guns blaring and shooting their best witty jokes this week. Following up one of Marvels most loved action movies, Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2 shows a hard hitting sequel that focuses on family, the good and the bad sides of it.

In the first movie, Peter Quill is a ragtag and sleazy guy who travels the galaxy taking what he wants when he wants it. His most definitive feature is the name he chose for himself, Star Lord, and the only reason he chose it is because he thinks it’s cool. In the following movie, however, nothing has changed except he has a  larger group of friends with whom to save the entirety of space and this time, multiple enemies are after him.

The original crew is all ready to fight: Mr. Daddy Issues Peter Quill, the quick tempered raccoon Rocket and his adorable sidekick Baby Groot, Drax the strong but clueless, and the girl who can take anyone down in a fight but can’t enjoy music, Gamora.

After stealing from a planet they were supposed to be helping, Peter and the group have to flee for their lives and eventually come across a mysterious man by the name of Ego. He claims to be Peter’s long lost dad and reveals himself as an alien from a planet named after himself.

In a word, guardians of the galaxy 2 was outrageous in the best way possible. It’s said that a sequel is never as good as the original, and in this case, that’s true. This doesn’t mean that this movie wasn’t amazing in the way a MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie can be, though. It has extreme action, a large message easily understood by the audience, unique humor around every corner, and that charm and aesthetic only Guardians of the Galaxy can achieve. All of this brings home a well put together and nicely paced story to enjoy.

From Rotten Tomatoes reviewers, “GOTG vol 2 is a marvel movie that, unlike Deadpool, can get away with suggestive content, really tapping in to its PG-13 rating to the fullest. The humor is dirty, the violence is unsettling, and this movie captured the galactic fighting comics aura extremely well.”

Although parents might not want to take their kids to see their beloved superheroes in action, this movie is true to the comics in how it’s rated. Hardcore Marvel Comics and MCU fans can appreciate that aspect.

Not only that, but this movie is receiving high ratings from any casual Sci-Fi or superhero lover, and anyone can have fun watching this movie as long as they have seen the first film. So go out and enjoy the movie filled with sickly good puns, inside jokes, emotional trauma, all wrapped with a booming 80’s pop soundtrack that is Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2.
