Most people think of school starting as football season, but it is cheer season, too.

The varsity cheer team, made up of 26 girls and three boys, has been working since May to prepare for this school year. While most students only know the cheerleaders as spirit promoters at pep rallies and sporting events, they also have the task of preparing for their competition season this winter.

To get a better outlook of the season, the cheer captains were asked a couple of questions.

Senior Kirsten Davis says she has one leading goal for the team. “The main goal I have for this season is to be even better than we were last year. We don’t need to compare ourselves to other schools, but concern ourselves with our team’s personal growth. I’m super excited to see my teammates grow this season and I can’t wait to make senior memories with some of my best friends,” said Davis.

Senior Jordyn Manecke mentioned that she’s most excited for senior night and competition season.

Another member, senior Jessica Girod, talked about her favorite part about being on the team. “The team is like a second family to me. We all have the same goals and only want what’s best for each other. It’s just a good home away from home,” stated Girod.

Senior Emily Sarnowski mentioned what she wants from the student body this school year. She’s asking for students to “interact with our cheers and for all of us to be spirited for the football team together.”

School spirit is an important aspect of high school. The cheer team takes on that challenge of generating more spirit by promoting students to wear school colors, come out to games and even just being proud to be a bear.
